What Goes Great With Barbecue and Wine This Memorial Day? Patriotism

MemorialDayPatriotism_SOCTo many people, Memorial Day weekend means family, barbecuing and a long three-day weekend. But quite often, little thought is given to the actual meaning of the day—celebrating service members who are fighting or have fought for our freedom.

This year, however, one company is seeking to make a difference for military personnel by joining forces with Operation Homefront, a San Antonio-based non-profit organization that supplies financial and emotional support for the spouses and families of soldiers deployed overseas.

Liberty Creek Wines (www.libertycreekwine.com) is partnering with Operation Homefront to honor America’s heroes by awarding five mortgage-free, move-in ready homes to military families. Starting in May and continuing through November 30, consumers can text the word LIBERTY to 313131, and Liberty Creek Wines will donate $5 for every verified text message, up to $48,000.

“Liberty Creek has been a great supporter of Operation Homefront and our military families, and we’re grateful for their continued partnership,” said Tim Farrell, chief operating officer for Operation Homefront. “With this campaign, they’ve made it easy for their customers to join the cause by simply sending a text message.”

Homes on the Homefront, an initiative launched by Operation Homefront in 2012, has provided mortgage-free homes and social support services to more than 250 wounded warriors and veterans and their families. Last year, the program placed 188 families in homes, at a combined savings of more than $41 million in mortgage costs over an average 30-year loan.

“All of us at Liberty Creek Wines believe in honoring America’s service members for the sacrifices they make to ensure our liberty and freedom,” says Stephanie Gallo, vice president of marketing at Liberty Creek Wines. “We are proud to be part of Operation Homefront’s efforts to provide homes to veterans across the country.”

So, as you sit back, sip some wine, and spend time with your family and loved ones this holiday weekend, keep in mind those who aren’t able, and consider lending your support to military service members through the Operation Homefront and Liberty Creek Wines’ partnership.
